Accessibility

Douglas County School District (DCSD) is committed to providing equitable access to our services to everyone.

Our ongoing accessibility effort works towards being in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1, level AA criteria. These guidelines not only help make technology accessible to users with sensory, cognitive and mobility disabilities, but ultimately to all users, regardless of ability.

Our efforts are just part of a meaningful change in making all DCSD services inclusive and accessible. We welcome comments on how to improve our technology’s accessibility for users with disabilities and for requests for accommodations to any DCSD services.

Requests for accommodations and feedback

We welcome your feedback about the accessibility of Douglas County School District (DCSD) online services. Please let us know if you encounter accessibility barriers or would like to request assistance.

  • All requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and we will do our best to reply to all communications within two (2) business days.
  • Reasonable accommodations or modifications are provided at no cost.
  • Accommodation requests that would impose an undue financial, technical or administrative burden to DCSD may not be fulfilled as requested.

Examples of accommodations include:

  • Sign language interpretation for an event, meeting, or appointment.

  • Alternative document formats (such as braille or large print).
  • Remediated PDFs.

In the Workplace

How We Are Implementing Accessibility

Website Testing and Remediation

  • We conduct automated testing of all webpages for accessibility and quality assurance.
  • We continue to test and remediate our digital products in an effort to provide continuous improvement of our sites and applications.
  • In addition, we make use of tools such as the AudioEye, Contrast Checker by WebAIM, and other automated and manual testing tools.

Training

We provide accessibility training to all staff through required coursework, meetings on accessibility topics, and regular targeted training. Numerous accessibility resources are also available to staff and updated regularly.
