Nut Policy
2025/2026 Nut Restriction Policy
We have several students at CCE with life-threatening allergies to nuts and/or peanuts. To ensure the safety of all students, we ask that nut products—including peanuts—not be brought into the classroom for snacks. This includes, but is not limited to: walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts, peanut butter, and other nut butters. These items are only permitted in the lunchroom during grade-level lunches.
While in the lunchroom:
-
Students will sit at designated tables that are either nut-restricted or allow nut products.
-
The same tables will be used each day for nut-restricted seating to ensure consistency and safety.
-
Towels used to clean nut-restricted tables will be kept separate from those used on other tables.
-
Students eating foods that contain nuts will wash their hands before returning to class.
-
Students without nut allergies may sit at nut-restricted tables only if they bring or purchase a nut-free lunch.
Birthday Celebrations:
Coyote Creek does not allow students to bring treats to share with their class for birthdays. Instead, we celebrate by announcing birthdays over the intercom, and students receive a pencil from the principal.
Classroom Celebrations:
We do hold celebrations for holidays that may include food. During these events, we strive to limit all products that contain nuts or are manufactured in facilities that process nuts. However, because labeling is not always consistent, it’s possible that nut-containing products may still enter the classroom. To further reduce risk, no home-baked goods are allowed during classroom celebrations. All staff members make every effort to minimize exposure to allergens.
Classroom Snacks:
We encourage students to bring healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables, Goldfish crackers, cheese sticks, or other nut-free options. Students are reminded that sharing food is not allowed at any time. Nutrition Services makes every effort to avoid offering items made in nut-processing facilities, though we cannot guarantee a completely nut-free environment. Please refer to the daily district lunch menu for details:

Seating and Supervision:
Lunchroom aides will ensure that students with nut-containing items sit at the designated tables, while students with nut restrictions will choose appropriate seating. Please take time to talk with your child about where they should sit based on what they bring for lunch.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the office. We’re here to support all students and keep them safe.
